Hydrology
Preliminary studies: Climate and Meteorology
In relation to preliminary studies, CGS analyzes and reconstructs weather sequences; installs and monitors meteorological networks, draws up climate maps; prepares meteorological and hydrological databases; carries out agronomical studies for the demarcation of irrigable zones; performs studies on erosion and sedimentation, carries out studies on climate change and its potential effects; performs studies and projects on water and forest restoration as wells as studies on rain enhancement (artificial rain).
Hydrological planning

In relation to hydrological planning, CGS develops basin hydrological plans and carries out complementary studies; performs studies on surface water and groundwater relationships and their joint use as wells as studies on minimum, ecological and dilution flows.
Other services offered by CGS are the performance of mathematical models on the hydrological behavior of basins, analysis and control of spillovers and the study of their transmission, technical assistance for adaptation to and achievement of the objectives defined by European directives (Water Framework Directive) and their incorporation into Spanish law.
Resource evaluation and management
As regards evaluation and management of resources, CGS prepares water balances (precipitation, runoff, evapotranspiration, infiltration); designs, controls, and monitors hydrometric networks; calculates water surplus; and performs studies on transfers to other basins and the quality, pollution and protection of surface water resources.
CGS also carries out studies on regulation and joint use of surface water and groundwater; prepares management models for basins and reservoir operation; performs studies on uses, demands and guarantees; manages the complete water cycle; prepares projects related to supply during drought situations; and performs studies on the construction of dams to produce hydraulic energy to generate electrical power.
