The diagnostic and environmental characterization work consists of analyzing the environmental situation of the subsoil of the installation through the study of the organic vapors occluded in the subsoil; the evaluation and characterization of the possible effect on the subsoil and groundwater of the site; the study of the environmental state of the installations; the detailed characterization of the immediate surroundings of the site; and the subsequent preparation of a Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) specific to the aforementioned installation.
Subsoil remediation work consists of the application of various decontamination techniques for the purpose of reducing the pollution load of the subsoil of a site to acceptable levels which do not represent a risk to human health and the environment. Among the most frequently used techniques, the most noteworthy are multiphase vacuum extraction, chemical oxidation, subsoil washing using biosurfactants and bioremediation through the use of oleophilic fertilizers.
